NHSC Spring 2021 Graduates Earn Record-Setting GPA

New Town, N.D. – Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) Spring 2021 graduates achieved an average grade point average of 3.0, the highest combined GPA in the college’s history, while earning certificates and associate and bachelor’s degrees.

The record-high combined GPA occurred in spite of hardships related to COVID-19, including learning in a non-traditional environment and the impact of the pandemic on families and the local community. Several graduates earned more than one degree or certificate.

“As a tribal college, our goal is to help students succeed while holding them accountable for deadlines and objectives. I give a lot of credit to our faculty for their perseverance and for adapting to an extraordinary situation,” said Robert Rainbow, NHSC vice presidents of academics. “Together, our students and staff have reached a new level of accomplishment, both individually and as a higher education community.”

  • Joni Foote: BA in Native American Studies and AA in Addiction Studies

  • Lexus Stevens: AA in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship Certificate

  • Lizette Alvarez: BS in Environmental Science

  • Mallory Wilson: AA in Business Administration

  • Michael Medeiros: AS in Computer Science and AS in Sustainable Energy Technologies

  • Riannon Charging: AA in Human Services

  • Tammy Hammer: BA in Native American Studies

  • Tayloure Baker: AA in Business Administration and

  • Teliea Baker: AA in Addiction Studies

Located in New Town, N.D., NHSC offers in-demand certificate programs and associate degrees as well as three bachelor’s degrees. NHSC is the only Tribal College/University (TCU) that offers equine studies and sustainable energy technologies programs. NHSC also offers a world-renowned Native American Studies program that covers three Native languages. Most NHSC students are members of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nations, or Three Affiliated Tribes, and reside on the Fort Berthold reservation.
