NHSC Receives College Readiness Grant
New Town, N.D. -- Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College has been awarded a $5,000 college readiness grant
from the American Indian College Fund’s Native Pathways to College initiative. The funding will be used
to increase college readiness and college-going practices among MHA Nation students.
“Transitioning to higher education can be challenging. With this grant and the collaborative efforts of
the academic community, NHSC will draw more students to our college,” said Constance King Gottschall,
Ph.D., vice president of Student Services. “This funding will help us provide support for prospective
students and their families before they come to campus. NHSC is a bridge between K-12 education and
life-changing degrees.”
The new college admissions initiative will be called "Storm Offers Support (SOS): College Knowledge."
It incorporates the NHSC team name and focuses on middle school, high school, dual-credit and GED
students and their families. NHSC will host weekly online college admissions preparatory sessions from
February to May 2021. The Zoom sessions will be posted on the NHSC Facebook page, along with a link
on the NHSC website. Topics will include:
Affording college and financial aid
College preparation and the application process
Programs and registration
Resources for student success
In addition to the online sessions, NHSC will provide Storm Offers Support (SOS): College Knowledge
Care Packages, which will be distributed to middle schools and high schools on the Fort Berthold
Reservation. The SOS Care Packages will provide information about NHSC, college registration and how
to be a successful college student. For more information about the program, contact Constance King
Gottschall at 443-534-5769 or cfrank@nhsc.edu.

degrees as well as three bachelor’s degrees. The college offers high-quality cultural, academic and
